The curbside management project includes the installation of 141 on-street sensors and is part of the municipality’s participation in the Smart Catalonia Lab for new Smart City technologies.

ParkHelp’s cloud technology for managing urban mobility and special spaces will be used to monitor the new dynamic parking spaces recently installed in the municipality of Vila-seca, Spain. The initiative to offer limited-time parking areas is aimed at decongesting the streets of the town in areas of high demand and at peak times, benefiting local businesses and facilitating access to health services.

ParkHelp changes on-street parking

ParkHelp makes the management of these places possible, by employing the new cloud mobility solution. The G4 outdoor parking sensors will guarantee a very high detection accuracy in the streets of Vila-seca, and through the ParkManager software, the City Council will be able to see in real-time the occupancy of all the sensorized spaces, and consult occupancy histories, obtaining key information for dimensioning future mobility actions. For the greater convenience of the citizen, the system will also be integrated with the APP Aparcar, through which the driver will be able to check the availability of parking, control the parking time and renew it where possible.

“The priceless collaboration of ParkHelp allows us, at no financial cost to the city, to obtain data to find out the real demand for parking in several spaces in Vila-seca,” says the mayor of the town, Pere Segura. “Today, both in public administrations and in private companies, having relevant data available makes us more efficient and agile when making decisions. Therefore, the monitoring of the parking spaces allows us to obtain necessary information in order to know the habits of the citizens of Vila-seca in terms of parking, and thus be able to implement improvements needed in the future.”

The project is part of Vila-seca’s participation in the Smart Catalonia Lab, a test space for new technologies dedicated to smart cities in Catalonia. For ParkHelp, the location could not have been more favorable. “Vila-seca is the ideal place to launch this project. Not only because our factory is in this town, but also because it offers an attractive balance between stable population and visitors, with dimensions that allow us to develop and analyze the implementation of our parking solutions,” says ParkHelp Technologies COO Alexis Puig.

Commited to Smart City projects

ParkHelp is strongly committed to Smart City trends and the fact of connecting citizens with the services offered by their municipalities. The fifth generation of the outdoor sensor, G5, for example, has LTE-M and NB IoT connectivity, allowing its operation in a standalone manner, without repeaters. In addition, it has a Bluetooth function to communicate directly with the driver’s smartphone, which will make parking management and payment much easier.

In Vila-seca, the first phase with 48 sensors has been installed in the 15 and 10-minute zones of the town. In the upcoming weeks, the installation work will be completed until reaching a total of 141 spaces in the limited-time parking areas.
